Batman hates Green Lantern why?
Aug. 8th, 2014 11:50 pmOne element of Batman dropped in the nu52 post-FLASHPOINT DCU is that Batman doesn't hate also other superheroes for no good reason. The problem is, I have a hard time coming up with reason why Batman hated all other superheroes that doesn't make Bruce Wayne look incredibly petty.
First from GREEN LANTERN: REBORN #1

Then from BLACKEST NIGHT #0

And here's my problem: Each idea for why Batman hates/strongly dislikes Green Lantern, which expands to ALL other superheroes makes Bruce look petty.
1. They have superpowers, he doesn't. He had to Walk the Earth learning everything about fighting, science and detective work that there was to know. The rest of them fell ass-backwards into superpowers.
Problem: They have superpowers and what to use them to fight crime and save peoples lives. How is this a bad thing? Also, some of those "meditation techniques" Bruce learned as close to super-powers as Batman gets.
2. Their parents weren't murdered in front of them.
Problem: Are you kidding me? Seriously, are you kidding me?
(Diverting to that popular speech Mark Waid had Daredevil give regarding such a thing, I've wondered if Daredevil is the one to give such a speech. After all, if Jack Murdock hadn't been murdered, Matt would have done whatever Stick was training him for.)
3. Green Lantern isn't afraid of Batman.
Problem: Again, petty. And this is schoolyard bully petty. So, Bruce wants everyone to be afraid of him and will *hate* them if they aren't? Plus, it would be hard to be afraid of Batman for so long without hating him. (See most Arkham residents.) And Batman's response to this is, "Well, I'll just hate them right back."
