Some say that Robin is around so Batman won't get too grim. In his own way, Hawkeye serves the same function for Captain America, when Hawkeye and Cap are written properly.




Trust me, as bad as things would get for Captain America in Civil War, Hawkeye would never let Cap get all glum... at least, not for very long.



In context, this takes place in Captain America #401 from 1993, where Cap is depressed after the events of Operation: Galactic Storm. Cap feels out of place since he's not as "kill 'em all" as the rest of the club seems to be.
